Adaptation and Extension to Existing Property
Winner of the 2020 LABC Award for the “Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Dwelling” in the South East Region - Download the Award here
The original property built in a rural location was constructed between the First and Second World Wars. In more recent years it has been altered internally and been subject to a loft conversion.
Substantial outbuildings were demolished to allow the equivalent footprint to be added to the property allowing for a new spacious entrance hall and suit of rooms for the disabled client.
The new side extension provides a bedroom for the client, assisted en-suite bathroom, hydrotherapy facility and wheelchair/mobility equipment store. The bedroom and hydrotherapy facility open directly onto a private terrace.
The ground floor of the original property has been opened up to provide unrestricted wheelchair circulation space, therapy room, snug, care assistant’s accommodation, guest room with en-suite, and child’s bedroom.
We really enjoyed working with Malcolm and ARA on our project. Our vision and needs were fully understood and some great layout considerations were incorporated that have made a huge difference to our families’ everyday life. The house really does live up to all of our expectations, not only working well for us now, whilst our son is younger, but also when he wants his own independence (with a care team), as he moves into adulthood.
